Barista has 15 minutes of time to prepare his working environment. In this time he adjusts the grinder with his or sponsored coffee and prepare everything needed for first discipline – signature drink. Competitor can bring his own grinder, with his own coffee.
Competitor has 10 minutes to prepare two identical Signature drinks of his own recipe, which has to be presented to judges before starting with this discipline. Signature drink must contain at least three and up to six different ingredients (without decoration), including coffee of baristas choice. Alcohol is allowed. All ingredients, including coffee competitor has to bring himself. After the end of discipline barista has to clean the working area and get ready for next discipline in 5 minutes.

In this discipline barista faces challenge from his everyday working environment. Judges give him an order of ten hot drinks, which he has to prepare and serve to the judges in nine minutes, which is considered in any order. If contestant’s time elapses before he prepares all drinks, he doesn’t get any points in this discipline. Judge throws the dice and thereby determine one of latte art patterns. The competitor must make two identical patterns in two cups within two minutes, after judge drops the dice. Each pattern is drawn in two cups as similar as possible. After the end of discipline barista has to clean the working area and get ready for next discipline in 5minutes.

At cupping comes to checking barista skills of identifying the profile of the coffee taste. The competitor has three minutes, to taste and remember five flavours of coffee in cups labelled with the letters A, B, C, D and E. After 3 minutes judge rearranges cups in random order. The competitor has two minutes for another tasting and rearranging cups in the right order. Stow Coffee Roasters selected five coffees specially for Barista Battle Challenge 2018 cupping discipline.
